| LEARN THE POWER OF YOUR DAILY BIO-RHYTHMS |
Your body has daily bio-rhythms, which affect your mood and productivity. According to researchers at the University of Pittsburgh here are ways to perform at your peak by taking advantage of your daily biological energy cycles:
- If you want to feel invigorated at the start of your day, get outside and take a quick walk between 7 am and 8 am. The early morning sun helps set your internal clock and increases your alertness and energy level.
- On your morning commute, listen to some “smart talk” on the radio coupled with some uplifting music. The combination will engage your brain for the day ahead.
- At 10 am, write a proposal, review your notes, or trade ideas with a coworker. The region of your brain linked to reasoning, logic and memory is most active at mid-morning. If you’re in school, this is a good time to take a test.
- Between 11am and noon, call a meeting or give a presentation. Your vocal chords are warmed up and at their peak. This is the hour when you’ll feel most alert.
- After lunch to reduce sleepiness, chew a piece of minty gum or pop an Altoid. The minty scent will revive you and the chewing will stimulate your brain again.
- Between 2 pm and 4 pm is usually the droopiest part of the day. Your blood pressure and your adrenaline levels have dropped. Do some no-brainer tasks like returning calls or answering email.
- Between 4 pm and 6 pm, tackle some detail-oriented tasks. Surprisingly, people tend to be more careful and thorough as quitting time approaches.
