5 FOODS THAT KEEP YOU FULL LONGER

Five foods that keep you full longer and contribute to less overeating:

  1. Protein-rich foods:  Foods like chicken, fish, low fat cottage cheese and beans help you feel full faster and keep you feeling satisfied longer.   When researchers gave subjects an omelet for breakfast, they consumed a whopping 620 FEWER calories later in the day than subjects given cold cereal.
  2. Soups: Studies show that soups are one of the most satisfying foods.  Most soups are nutrient dense and calorie sparse.  Soups affect the stretch receptors in the stomach telling the brain that you are full even though the calories are low. 
  3. Peanuts:  A new study found that snacking on just a handful of peanuts reduced hunger for up to 2 hours compared to the same calories in the form of rice cakes.  In the same study, those cakes only held off hunger for only 30 minutes.
  4. Baked Potatoes:  Researchers gave dieters a variety of foods then they rated their hunger every 15 minutes.  The potatoes kept the dieters satisfied longer than junk food, donuts, ice cream, fish and oatmeal.
  5. Coffee: The caffeine stimulates the release of a hormone that suppresses appetite, delays the onset of hunger, and promotes a feeling of fullness.
