Do you experience a "mid-afternoon slump?” Our body clocks are often set for an energy sag between 3pm and 5pm, but the "solutions" most people choose just perpetuate the problem. If you're grabbing a candy bar or soda instead of a healthy lunch, it's no surprise you're drooping at your desk later on. Caffeine and sugar are very quickly metabolized, especially on an empty stomach, so they can give you an energy surge followed by an energy dump.
For consistent energy, try spreading your food throughout the day. Eat four small meals that combine protein and carbohydrates to keep your blood sugar from crashing, which is the usual culprit of the "mid-afternoon slump." Try an egg-white omelet to start your day. Have a mid-morning snack of peanut butter and celery, and a hearty chicken salad for lunch. For mid-afternoon, replace that candy bar or bag of chips or soda with a cup of "brain food" such as blueberries or a nutritional protein drink balanced with vitamins and minerals. Dehydration also saps your energy, so drink plenty of water. And I mean plenty of it. For an added boost, add a slice of lemon or lime to your water. The citrus aroma alone can elevate your energy.
