| 10 DAILY HABITS TO OPTIMUM WELLNESS |
Here are 10 very important daily practices that will help promote a wellness lifestyle and allow you to get the most out of life.
- Sleep: Get 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night. Current estimates are that 55-60 % of Americans are sleep deprived. Being sleep deprived is one of the leading causes of poor health and lack of productivity. Are you sleep deprived?
- Meditate: Take 5 to 10 minutes in the morning and in the evening and close your eyes, breathe deeply, and focus on what is important to you.
- Move: Achieve 30 minutes of moderate physical activity or walk 10,000 steps…move, lift and stretch your way to functional fitness.
- Focus on Your Faith: Practice regular prayer and reading of God’s word.
- Drink Water: Drink 8 to 12 “net” glasses of water. Be aware that sugary and caffeinated beverages have a diuretic affect, which means they siphon water from your cells, so add more water to offset any diuretic beverage intake.
- Eat Healthy – Practice 4-3-2-1-0: Get 4 servings of whole grains, 3 servings of vegetables, 2 servings of fruit and no more than 1 serving of refined carbohydrates, preferably zero.
- Laugh: Having a sense of humor is the best medicine and research shows it reduces stress and improves your immune system. A good belly laugh is the best way to release negative stress. Lighten up and live!
- Under Eat at Every Meal: Overeating is the number 2 culprit to poor health, second to smoking. Research shows that the key to optimum health and life longevity is eating less.
- Be Thankful: Focus on your many blessings. Think about the precious things you have that money cannot buy. Be thankful for family, friends, life, good health, hopes and realized dreams.
- Practice Forgiveness: Harboring ill will, anger and having an unforgiving spirit is “emotionally toxic.” It is like storing acid in your soul; it will eat away your life. Learn to forgive those who have hurt you and most importantly learn to forgive yourself. Focus on love not the hurt or pain.
