Benefits ZestQuest, Linking Girls to Golf, AJGA ACE Grant

SALEM, S.C. – (April, 25, 2008) As a result of the inaugural AJGA Cliffs Championship, Zest Quest, Linking Girls to Golf and the American Junior Golf Association’s Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant will share $20,000 in proceeds from Friday’s Junior-Am Fundraising Tournament, which paired local amateur golfers with one of the talented junior golfers competing in the 36-hole tournament that will take place Saturday and Sunday.

Over the past decade, AJGA Junior-Ams have raised more than $1 million for junior programs in communities across the United States.

Amateurs Dan Conti, B.P. Marsh, Greg Pace and William Boswell paired with 15-year-old Curtis Thompson of Coral Springs, Fla., to post a 20-under-par 52 to win the AJGA Cliffs Championship Junior-Am. The amateurs in each group utilized 50 percent of their handicap (junior golfers played at scratch), then played a shamble and recorded the low net score on each hole.

The first round of the AJGA Cliffs Championship, a boys’ and girls’ division stroke play event, will be held Saturday, April 26, with the final round being played Sunday, April 27. In total, 78 players, between the ages of 12-18, from 18 states, the District of Columbia, Canada, Northern Ireland and Denmark will be competing over the weekend. Tee times will begin both days at 8 a.m. off the first and 10th tees at The Cliffs at Keowee Falls. An awards ceremony will immediately follow play Sunday.

The goal of the ACE Grant program is to give top-flight golf opportunities to young golfers regardless of financial resources. This program helps to fulfill the AJGA’s mission of developing young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.

About the AJGA
The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.
