A love of the land and high regard for pristine water and pure air is fundamental to life at The Cliffs. Our President and Founder, Jim Anthony, believes strongly that, “We can never improve what our Creator has given us, and we can never replace it. If we preserve the land, and treat it will integrity, success will follow.”
As part of our developmental philosophy, we actively work to find new ways to preserve the land so that future generations can enjoy the natural beauty found in and around The Cliffs Communities. There are more than 50 miles of groomed trails within The Cliffs Communities, revealing private parks, streams, waterfalls, picnic areas, and panoramic vistas. The Cliffs is proud to cultivate an Organic Farm with over 100 varieties of vegetables, herbs and native flowers that supply our clubs, restaurants and property owners with fresh, organically-grown foods.
At The Cliffs at Mountain Park, we are building an eco-friendly showcase home, designed to take advantage of solar energy, energy-efficient lighting and "green" interior design. Plus, The Cliffs will offer environmentally-friendly building guidelines for interested Mountain Park residents.
The Cliffs’ founder, Jim Anthony, works closely with property owners to preserve the land, wildlife corridors, streams and trails both inside and outside The Cliffs’ gates. At The Cliffs Preserve in Patagonia, Chile, Cliffs’ residents and Furman University students and researchers are working together to ensure that thousands of acres of Chilean rainforest are preserved for generations to come.
Most recently, The Cliffs Communities announced a partnership with Southern Living magazine and Furman University to construct the 2008 Southern Living Showcase Home that will be a model of “green” design, renewable energy and operating efficiency. At 3,000 square feet, “The Cliffs Cottage” at Furman will be among the first residential homes in America to receive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. It will also be the first environmentally sustainable Southern Living Showcase Home.

“Teaming up with Furman and Southern Living to create The Cliffs Cottage at Furman is an exciting prospect for us at The Cliffs. The project gives all of us—including people in the community—the opportunity to stretch our minds as we explore ways to live more responsibly in the 21st century. Using ‘green’ designs up front not only eliminates maintenance problems down the road, but more importantly, preserves and protects the natural resources of the land. And we at The Cliffs believe that if you treat the land with respect and integrity, everyone wins—especially future generations.” - Jim Anthony, President and Founder of The Cliffs Communities
